If you are interested in protection of meadows and grasslands to protect nesting birds, then this call for action may be of interest to you. We have been told via area activists that … About a half hour north of the Jersey border are miles and miles of farm lands, which are home to wintering Rough Legged Hawks, Short Eared Owls, and Meadowlarks and Bobolinks in the Summer and Spring. As many of you know, they are considered endangered and travel thousands of miles to nest up in these fields. The location where they have active nests is in a political battle because they continue to slaughter the newly hatched Bobolinks with their lawn mowers, even though the town said that they would wait until nesting season is over.
